Training Programmes

Having difficulty fitting climbing in with work? Struggling to make sense of all the training jargon? Do you feel that you've stopped improving and that your sessions at the wall have stagnated? If so it sounds like you may be in need of a personalised training programme. A targeted training plan doesn't have to remove the enjoyment from climbing; it can add fresh impetus to your wall sessions by removing the tendency to just do the same old things. A structured training programme will gain vital momentum to bring you to a peak for a climbing trip or for the start of the season. Forget copying your friends or reading general training articles. The only programme that will give you maximum results is one that's designed for your own aims and to target your own strengths and weaknesses.

If you are interested in subscribing to a personalised training programme with Neil then here's what to do. Fill in our pre-training questionnaire making sure that you fully complete it. This may take at least half an hour but please take your time and be as thorough and objective as possible. If necessary consult a climbing partner for an unbiased view! Having submitted the questionnaire, Neil will examine it and put together a fully personalised programme to suit your strengths, weaknesses and goals. This will include individual session plans with training targets, week plans and a monthly overview. Please allow up to 3 weeks for receipt of the programme - these are complex documents which take time to prepare.

Examples of Neil's previous training programme successes

In 1996, Neil helped a complete beginner from London who had very little training time and who had sustained a shoulder injury from another sport to lead trad E1 within a year of starting.

In 1998 he set a training program for an accomplished E5/6 trad climber to redpoint his first sport 8a. The program was centered round specific improvements in strength and endurance.

In 1999, Neil helped a climber from North Wales who had climbed E1 and who had suffered a severe back injury some years previously to return to the sport and better his previous level within 8 months. The program was based on building an initial foundation of strength and then targeting specific areas of technique and climbing skill.

Neil has also devised programs for British Junior team members, Jemma Powell, Leah Crane and Chris Savage, all of whom made improvements in their climbing, both indoors and outdoors, under his guidance.
